With 3 small children we stepped into the Show world slowly. Deciding to go with a Handler, we purchased our first show prospects and ended up with our first Champions being Black; however, our hearts were still with the Parti colors. Eventually, we bred a couple litters of blacks, but missed the spots at birth; so from there, we decided to focus on the Parti color variety.
A few of our most thrilling moments were American Spaniel Club wins with our own girl CH. San Jo's Jazz Hot going Winners Bitch and finishing the next day at the Cocker Specialty. This girl went on to be a Group Winner and BOS to Variety at the following winter Spaniel Club.
Next from our breeding came a tri-colored beauty, CH. Lancer's Hear No Evil who was RWB at Spaniel Club from the puppy class and finished as a puppy with multiple BOS to BB wins.
CH. San Jo's Scarlett Ribbons, a lovely red and white, was our next showgirl going BOS to BV in her Futurity class from the 6-9 class at the tender age of 6 1/2 months old.
Then came Victoria... CH. San Jo's Playin To Win, who was the number one Cocker in all breed ranking. A sensational show dog, Victoria earned 4 Best In Show wins, 9 Best In Specialty wins and retired from the ring in 2001. Her first litter produced a high quality litter including Ch. San Jo's Born To Win whose two year campaign ended with him being the #1 cocker, #2 Sporting dog, and #5 dog of All Breeds.
We belonged to both the Carolina Cocker Spaniel Specialty Club and the Chattanooga Cocker Spaniel Specialty Club, having sat on the board of both Clubs. We have also been members of the American Spaniel Club for the past 25 years (Life Members) and served on a Zone Representative selection committee and the National Nominating Committee.
In 1997 we started the Champions Listserv, bringing together show fanciers/exhibitors from coast to coast and country to country. We look forward to many more exciting moments as a fancier, List Owner and now the website itself.
